A smarter approach

Labrador's author pages work like magic behind the scenes. Similar to how your tag pages dynamically populate with relevant content, author pages automatically pull in each writer's profile details and their latest articles.

How to set it up

Getting started requires just a few simple steps.

First, enable the feature in Admin > Author pages where you can choose whether to activate author pages for all bylines or just selected contributors. Author page path must for the time being be set to empty - or to "author".  An upcoming release will allow you to change the path to something that matches your site's profile better.

Then create a new front page with the host path "author" and enable automatic articles. That's your foundation.

The real beauty comes in customization. Drop in the Author Box element to display profile details like name, description, and photo. You control exactly which fields appear and how they're styled.

Add automatic articles that automatically populate each author's page with their latest work. Style these article displays just like any other article in Labrador CMS.

When you publish this single template page, every author on your site (or the ones you specify) instantly has their own dedicated space.

URLs that make sense

Author page URLs can use either the byline ID for simplicity or custom paths for readability. An example would be "yoursite.com/author/100222"

Want your technology editor's page at "yoursite.com/author/jane-doe" instead of a numeric ID? Just add the alternative URL when editing that byline. The system handles the routing automatically.

To make sure that the author's byline links to their page, you need to do two things:

  • Make sure the byline has a public email added (you can check this when editing the byline)
  • Make sure that you publish an article with the byline after having enabled author pages. This makes sure that the link is set up to the author page.

Readers can explore an author's full body of work with a single click.

Why This Matters for Your Publication

Author pages strengthen the relationship between your readers and your editorial team. They provide transparency, build trust, and encourage readers to discover more content from writers they enjoy. For your authors, it's professional recognition and a portfolio of their published work, all maintained automatically as they contribute.

Whether you're running a small blog or managing a large publication with dozens of contributors, author pages scale effortlessly. You invest the setup time once and reap the benefits for every writer, current and future.
