Hamburger Morgenpost live on Labrador: - The switch was a success
Hamburger Morgenpost switched to Labrador CMS in June and they have seen an increase in workflow efficiency for the journalists and editors, in speed loading and in the development of their product.
From the newsroom side, from the product side and from the management side it was a success
When Hamburger Morgenpost had to change publishing systems, they were looking for cost efficiency and fast and flexible tools. Early this year they started the migration to Labrador CMS, and 8th of June they launched their new site on mopo.de.
- It was really great working with Labrador in the onboarding process, and our journalists and newsroom adapted really quickly. From the newsroom side, from the product side and from the management side it was a success, Dana Schluenzen, Director of Product in MOPO, says.
Faster publishing
Site Manager Ivan De Vincenzi says that editing the front page, articles and images are now faster than before:
- I find it very intuitive and learnt it very quickly. The way you can move elements around, quickly crop images, change headlines and links are the main advantages.
- The workflow is much easier now. Editing articles is much quicker, De Vincenzi adds.
In Labrador, journalists write directly into the layout and front page editing and article editing are "what you see is what you get". Everything is combined in one system so that the journalists don't need to have several tabs open and different programs.
Lighter pages
The team has also seen an improvement in speed and infrastructure.
- The page is much lighter and loads faster than before, Webmaster Marc Baumgart says.
- Why did you change systems, and why did you choose Labrador?
- The main reason is that we wanted to be more flexible and faster, while being more cost efficient. We also like the built-in AI features that Labrador offers. We are always looking at the Scandinavian market, because most of the time the publishers are a couple of years ahead. In terms of innovation, choosing a Scandinavian company that works with Scandinavian publishers also made sense, Schluenzen says.
Accelerated their development
What we can do on our own without contacting developers is now times 100
Webmaster Marc Baumgart and the MOPO team has been through different migrations throughout the years, and he, as a developer, appreciates the in-built and out of the box solutions in Labrador.
- Other systems are too big; they have so much things you have to configure and things you don't need. Here, it was so easy. The implementation time in Labrador is so quick, Baumgart says.
- Overall, we really appreciate the flexibility of the system, Schluenzen adds.
- Yes, it's more flexible, faster and cost efficient. What we can do on our own without contacting developers is now times 100. When we recently changed the complete ads stack, it was done within a few days, Baumgart smiles.
More freedom
We just do things now because we can
The Hamburger Morgenpost team is always working on improving their product for the readers, and have many exciting plans.
- When switching CMS, choosing Labrador ensures us about what will happen in the future in terms of development. Now we just have more freedom and can think more freely on what we can build in the future. That has really changed. We just do things now because we can, Baumgart says.
- To be honest I was a bit unsure if we needed developer access in the early talks with Labrador, but it turned out we don't need it because we can change things client side in admin. The feeds are a very powerful tool and you can do anything with articles you can think of.
Labrador also updates the features for all sites every month.
- Monthly updates are nice. It's really great that you profit from other publishers' feature requests. When they come up with a great idea, it's available for everyone.
